Since ancient times, there has been a tradition of giving protective charms to loved ones and exchanging gifts. Today, we often bring back meaningful objects from our travels—for ourselves and for friends—imbuing them with special significance and emotional resonance. As we journey through life, we build a collection of values, insights, and feelings; we gather a kaleidoscope of precious moments; we fill the treasury of the soul with fleeting encounters and fateful meetings. What is it that we hold in our hearts and memories forever?
In the exhibition "Souvenirs," two contemporary artists—Olga Aksenova and Natalia Chobanyan—explore social interaction through different media, seeking answers to life-shaping questions: Who am I? Where do I belong among others? How do I connect with the world around me? Both artists pay special attention to the most important encounter each person can have—the encounter with oneself. Using diverse narratives and means of expression, they create a deep and harmonious dialogue through their art, touching on themes of self-identification, memory, and the sense of belonging.
